Job Description

Overview

About the Port of Mobile: Established in 1928, the Port of Mobile is Alabama’s only deep-water seaport and one of the fastest-growing trade gateways in the United States. Operated by the Alabama State Port Authority, the Port handles containers, automobiles, steel, forest products, coal, grain, cold storage, and other bulk and breakbulk commodities. With 50-foot-deep water, four Super Post-Panamax cranes, two Post-Panamax cranes, a 1,600-foot turning basin, and direct access to five Class I railroads, nine inland waterways, and interstate highways, the Port delivers unmatched connectivity for global shippers. The Port spans more than 4,000 acres, offers 41 berths, and provides 5 million square feet of warehouse and open yard space. Since 2000, over $1.4 billion has been invested in modernizing facilities, including a $400 million container/intermodal terminal, a steel slab handling facility, expanded warehousing, and major upgrades at the McDuffie Coal Terminal. The Alabama Port Authority serves all 67 counties in the state of Alabama and oversees the public, deep-water facilities at the Port of Mobile. According to the most recent economic impact study, the Port generates $98.3 billion in total economic value statewide, supports 351,359 jobs (approximately 1 in 7 in Alabama), produces $22.5 billion in personal income, and contributes more than $2.4 billion in tax revenue annually. These numbers underscore the Port’s role as one of the most versatile, efficient, and impactful seaports in the nation.
