A Registered Nurse (RN) plays a key role in taking care of patients. RNs work with other medical staff, both licensed and unlicensed. They should be friendly and passionate about their work.
**Main Job Duties:**
- The RN checks the needs of patients, makes a care plan with a team of other health professionals, and updates the care plan as necessary.
- Works together with doctors to provide and organize care for patients and groups of patients.
- Helps teach patients and their families about what they need to know. They also help with planning for discharge and aftercare.
- Ensures a safe environment for patients and staff, both individually and in groups.
- Responsible for writing down, reporting, and checking all important information according to the rules of the workplace. - Monitors patient safety and informs doctors about any risks that could cause problems.
- Creates a welcoming and friendly atmosphere for clients by following quality standards and maintaining professionalism. Builds good relationships with staff and clients.
- Provides care in different healthcare settings and works with diverse patient populations. Identifies what each patient needs and offers caring, person-centered support.
- Acts as a leader, guiding and coordinating the work of other staff and helping them grow professionally. - Reviews and uses patient care protocols and standards. Gives ideas for improvements.
- Uses resources wisely and promotes their careful use.
- May train direct care staff and oversee medication and physical health tasks in a program.
- Might help with scheduling and staffing and getting approvals for patient care.
- Models the mission and values of the organization, maintaining a professional image through appearance, attitude, behavior, time management, and communication. Offers spiritual, emotional, social, and physical support to patients.
**Requirements:**
**Education, Training, and Experience:**
- Must be licensed to work as a nurse in Michigan.
A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is preferred.
- May need to know psychiatric nursing concepts, which comes from finishing a nursing program.
- Previous clinical experience is needed, but new graduates can be considered, especially if they have experience in psychiatric or emergency departments.
**Skills and Abilities:**
- Can provide care that respects different cultures and communities.
- Needs professional knowledge of psychiatric nursing from an accredited school.
-Should have physical and emotional strength to handle various patient needs.
- Must be able to work in a challenging environment.
- Requires analytical skills to collect and understand complex patient information and discuss it with team members as needed.
- A valid Michigan driver’s license may be required.
**State License Requirement:**
- Must have a license to practice in Michigan.
