Employment Type: Full-time, on-site

About the German International School Chicago (GISC)

The German International School Chicago is a growing, bilingual, independent, non-profit school serving students from Preschool through High School. Our High School will launch with Grade 9 in 2026-2027, adding one grade level each year. We offer a rigorous, inquiry-based curriculum aligned with the International Baccalaureate (IB) and grounded in German immersion. Position Overview

We are seeking a dynamic, collaborative Spanish & English Teacher for Grades 5-9. The ideal candidate thrives in a multilingual environment, has experience teaching English language learners (ELLs), and is excited to contribute to the continued growth of our middle and high school programs.

As a developing secondary school, we especially value candidates who are flexible, proactive, and eager to support school-wide initiatives and ongoing curriculum development.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching Responsibilities

  • Teach Spanish in Grades 5-9 (sections based on enrollment and scheduling)
  • Teach English Language Arts in Middle School or Grade 9
  • Design engaging, inquiry-based lessons aligned with the IB philosophy
  • Differentiate instruction effectively for ELLs in a bilingual environment
  • Assess and document student learning using criterion-based assessment
  • Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary units and school-wide initiatives
  • Foster a supportive, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environment

Contribution to School Growth

  • Participate actively in curriculum development as our high school program expands
  • Support the establishment of structures, routines, and practices needed for a growing secondary division
  • Bring a positive, solutions-oriented mindset to a dynamic, developing school environment

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, Spanish, Linguistics, or a related field
  • At least two years of teaching experience
  • Demonstrated ability to teach Spanish and English at the middle school/early high school level
  • Experience working with English language learners (ELLs)
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Eligibility to work in the U.S. (citizenship, permanent residency, or existing work authorization)

Preferred:

  • Teaching certification (U.S. or international)
  • High school teaching experience
  • International Baccalaureate (IB MYP or DP) experience
  • Experience in bilingual or international school settings
  • Leadership experience (team collaboration, mentoring, curriculum work) is a plus
  • Proficiency in German is a plus
